I entered economics research because I enjoy analyzing public policies and their impacts on the economy and people's lives, especially for developing economies. This interest was confirmed by my actual research work studying the economic impacts of revenue-based tax regimes for small and medium-sized enterprises. My advisors and I show how progressive taxation can lead to output gains in low-productivity firms as well as size distortions among high-earning entrepreneurs. I really excited about this subject because gives rise to interesting and important discussions for developing countries. Since these differentiated tax regimes are created to help small and medium-sized firms, they can be an important tool to their creation and growth, and also to reduce informality. The more I explore these questions more I can see how important these discussions are and how help not only my country but other developing countries. I interest in study how to improve the already existing regimes and also in think about others possibilities. By analyzing their economic impacts and distortions I want to help to prevent possible problems.
I believe that my interest in studying public policies began when I studied the educational impacts of electrification in a poor region in Brazil. In this study, I could see how well organized and applied public policies can bring great impacts on people's lives. Recently, we analyzed the effect of Climate Adaptation Policies on infant health and also the effects of Job Training Programs in employment. Also, we studied how the COVID-19 pandemic affects Brazilian Slums and in another project, we study the effect of the Brazilian president's speech on the risky behavior of the citizens. Besides the benefits of having contact with several interesting research questions and learning from them, the research assistance has allowed me to improve my programming skills and how to deal with different databases. I really enjoy research and learn from economics questions, and, principally, I enjoy the possibility to help the developing world with my research.
