Lately, I watched a video from the channel "Speak English With Tifanni" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmrF_a577eQ) that helped me a lot with the fluency while I am speaking and writing in English. The owner of the channel, Tifanni, was also a language student learning Korean so she understands the difficulties of language learning. In her channel, she teaches a lot of "formulas" to speak more fluently or as a native speaker, and as a bonus, she is genuinely funny. In this post, I will present one of these formulas that I think can be adapted for any language.
The method consists of 5 steps using the 5 Ws ( Who, What, When, Where, Why) to answer any question in English in a complete way, avoiding short answers as language students usually do because it is more comfortable and safe. We can use them to reply to any question in whatever area of interest. As an example, I will answer the following two questions: "What is your favorite season?" and "What actor or actress do you like the most?".
Starting with the first question "What is your favorite season?", the 5Ws steps would be:
Who: I
What: Spring
When: September
Where: Brazil
Why: Beautiful and not so hot
So, putting all together the phrase would be:
"September is the begining of the season that I like the most. Spring in Brazil is beautiful with flowers everywhere and it has the advantage of not being as hot as the summer."
Now, the same exercise with the second question "What actor or actress do you like the most?":
Who: Audrey Hepburn
What: my favorite actress
When: Since I saw Breakfast at TIfanny's
Where: Belgium and England
Why: Elegant, good acting, good heart, and UNICEF job
The phrase :
"Since I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's, my favorite actress is Audrey Hepburn, who was born in Belgium but is known as a British actress. In fact, I like her because she is elegant, a great actress, and has a good heart, because when she was older, she traveled with UNICEF to help children around the world. "
These steps help me organize the information in my head and think faster. With time, you stop thinking in 5 separate steps and the brain gets used to it.
Nice, thank you for sharing these tips!
