My Homegrown Rose Hips

I have two types of roses in my garden: those I grow for their flowers and those I grow for rose hips. Today, I'd like to write about the ones that I've harvested rose hips.

I've been taking care of them organically and have planted them separately from the other ones. That's because I spray the other ones with chemicals to protect them from illness and bugs. I don't want to have rose hips that are affected by those chemicals.

The roses I grow for rose hips bloom pink flowers. Some have double flowers , but most of them have single ones.

They bloomed a lot this spring as well.

The white, single-flowered one is the only one among my rose hip- producing roses that has white flowers in my garden.

I pinch the flowers after they fade in my roses I grow for flowers because I don't want them to produce rose hips, while I leave the flowers on the other roses. After flowers fade, they create rose hips.

When the weather gets cooler, the green rose hips start turning orange.

They now started turning red. I'll harvest them in a week. Rose hips contains 20-40 times as much Vitamin C as lemons do. I'm still not sure how much I'll be able to harvest this year, but I'm looking forward to gathering and make tea with them.
