I consider myself an intuitive learner but that doesn't mean that I don't have a method. Although the learning process can be a tricky topic to discuss here, I want to talk about tips and tricks that are helpful and can be done at your own pace.
- Immersion: Immersion is a powerful tool. I don't know why people don't talk enough about it. You can immerse yourself in another culture just by watching TV, listening to podcasts or music, or whatever you like. If you've read my first post, you already know that I've fallen in love with Korea after reading “Nothing to Envy.”
My first k-drama was “Crash Landing on You” and I was surprised by the fact that I was able to recognise some North Korean words in it. You can gain vocabulary without almost any effort.
- Find something that brings you joy: Discover what you find fun to do. I usually do the dishes or other chores listening to NPR Political Podcast.
- News: You can improve your vocabulary and be informed at the same time. This habit is great, even if you are a beginner, because by doing this, you can grasp the subtleties of the language, such as intonation, correct pronunciation and sometimes the difference between accents.
