Hello everyone! Today's entry will be a summary of my philosophy class. I'm thinking about translating my summaries of some of my classes. I think that will be interesting, because today was my first day in the last year of high school. I think that I won't be able to study languages as I've been doing for the past few months, and with that in mind, I'll start writing in English about what I'm studying .
The construction of the modern state, Niccolò Machiavelli and other stuff:
*The modern state featured the creation of laws, coins, administration of public services and an army. Being the only who could use force in a legitimate way. Those changes had been taken into account since the 14th century in several European monarchies.
*In the 16th century, Germany and Italy each consisted of several states, which in that time was different than other European countries. Italy suffered from the greed of other countries, like Spain and France, in addition to great hostility from nearby countries.
*In that time, Nicolau Machiavelli watched how the Italian states were suffering with political instability of the states that owned militias composed of mercenaries.
*The prince by Machiavelli:
- Initially, we can see the acts of a prince in a fragmented Italy, where he should conquer the power and keep it at any cost.
-After, when he achieved stability, it would be desirable to implement a republican government.
-For Machiavelli, an ingenuous ruler wouldn't use illegal ways, or even ones of doubtful morality to achieve peace, by doing so, the ruler will have successive failures, and be an incompetent politician."The politic moral aims at the communal well-being".
*Virtù e Fortuna:
-For Machiavelli, a good ruler must virtuous, making great achievements in his government. But a virtuous ruler is nothing and achieves nothing if he doesn't know how to seize opportunities and ocasions.
That was just a short part of my summary, but I think that beside it being important to absorb the content, it helps me to write more and to acquire more vocabulary in English.
