An Evening Swift

by

I heard something and looked at the left. I saw a swift on my balcony (a recessed balcony, we call it ‘loggia’ here) throгhg the opened door. I’ve read that swifts have too weak feet and can't take off from the ground or any surface – they need an edge to take wing. So, this one was trapped. I got up from the desk and stepped over the threshold. The swift turned and tried to escape from me – too slow, too awkwardly. Indeed, swifts unable run, walk or jump. I took the swift and released outside. It flew away. The sun already set, but I wasn’t dark yet. I returned tote desk and thought I should have view the swift, since I had an opportunity – I acted on autopilot, without thinking. I wondered where swifts spend the night?
