Rice Paddy Art in Japan

Today, I'd like to introduce a unique form of art in Japan. When you go to rural areas where have rice paddies, you sometimes see art using rice plants.

Gyōda City in Saitama Prefecture is famous for this art form. Every year, the city shows different designs in the rice paddies, and the art is listed in the Guinness Book as the world's largest. The design is created on a computer, and volunteers plant different varieties of rice with different-colored leaves according to the plan. When they grow, the contrasting colors gradually reveal the artwork. It has become one of Japan's iconic summer sights.

Here's the video.

Inakadate Village in Aomori Prefecture once created One Piece (Japanese anime) artwork. If you're a One Piece fan, enjoy it here.
