어떤 분이 저한테 이 질문을 하셨어요. 저도 언어를 배우는 사람들을 만나면 왜 배우는지 궁금해요. 저는 항상 언어 배우는 걸 좋아했어요. 고등학교와 대학교 때 프랑스어를 배웠어요. 그런데 대학교 3학년 때 그만둬서 이제 거의 다 잊어버렸어요. 대학교 마지막 학년에 방탄소년단을 처음 봤어서 케이팝을 듣기 시작했어요. 대학교를 졸업한 후에는 좀 심심했어요. 원래 공부하는 걸 좋아해서 한국어를 배우기 시작했어요. 그래서 2019년부터 한국어를 배우고 있어요. 오랫동안 방탄소년단 음악 듣는 그만했지만 다른 그룹 음악을 들어요. 특히 에이티즈, 스트레이 키즈, 르세라핌을 주로 들어요. 케이팝 때문에 한국어를 배우기 시작한 건 흔한 이유죠? 음악은 많은 사람들에게 중요한 것 같아요. 가사를 이해하든 이해하지 못하든 사람들은 음악으로 연결되는 것 같아요. 그런데 한국 노래를 이해하고 싶었어요. ㅎㅎ 그리고 한국 드라마도 그때 보기 시작해서 그것도 이해하고 싶었어요. 이제는 드라마 중에 자막 없이 볼 수 있는 것도 있어요. 그리고 매주에 월수금 수업을 받는데 너무 재미있어서 한국말을 할 수 있어서 기분이 좋아요. 그래서 처음에는 케이팝 때문에 한국어를 배우기 시작했지만 지금은 계속 배우고 싶은 이유가 훨씬 많아요.

Title: Is there a specific reason you started learning Korean?

Someone asked me this question. Whenever I meet someone learning a language I am also curious why they are learning. I have always enjoyed learning languages. When I was in high school and college I learned French. However, I stopped in my third year of college so I have forgotten almost all of it. In my last year of college, I heard BTS for the first time and started listening to K-pop. After I graduated college I was a little bored. I have always liked studying so I decided to start studying Korean. Thus, I have been learning Korean since 2019. After awhile, I stopped listening to BTS and started listening to other group's music. Specifically Ateez, Stray Kids, and LSF are who I usually listen to. Learning Korean because of K-pop is a common reason, right? I think music is very important to a lot of people. Whether you understand the lyrics or not I think music is a way for people to connect with each other. However, I wanted to understand Korean songs. haha And I started watching K-dramas at that time so I wanted to understand those as well. Now, I can watch certain dramas without subtitles. And I have weekly MWF lessons that are fun and being able to speak Korean makes me happy. So, I started learning Korean because of K-pop but I continue learning for a plethora of reasons.
