A Japanese snack company announced that it'll change its colorful packages into black and white because of a shortage of printing materials. Japan has been directly affected by the conflict involving Israel, the US, and Iran.
I haven't seen the packages yet, but they must be very weird. I can't imagine that the whole snack corner would be dominated by only black and white. Colors are very important when it comes to appetite, and I don't think the black and white will make the snakes look appealing.
Although I'm not a snack eater, I wonder if this trend might spread to other products as well. I'm worried that we could gradually lose colors and end up living in a black-and-white world.
Is it happening only Japan? I'm curious whether other Asian countries that relay on oil transporting through the Strait of Hormuz are also affected.

A similar thing happened in Russia back in 2022, when our country was hit with sanctions because of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Our milk and juice packages became predominantly white with a small colored picture on one side. You can scroll through some pictures here:

I can say that it lasted for merely several months until packaging companies managed to create new supply chains for printing materials. I'm sure Japanese companies will manage to find solutions too.
Thank you for reading and commenting. Thank you for sharing the link as well. I really hope they'll find the way to solve the problem. In the moment, the way is selling the black-and-white packaging.
