I think I just have to be more realistic about life:

  • The fact that my profession is getting/becoming(?) obsolete after I spent/spending(?) a decade trying to enter it.
  • The way the world seems to be falling apart.
  • The energy crisis and the oil situation on the horizon.
  • I'll never thrive, only survive.
  • The realization that I may never be able to afford children,

are all true, but it doesn't mean that I have to be sad or depressed about it

When I was younger, I imagined a future that is never going to happen. I’ve realized that while all of this may be true, it only means I need to prepare.

I can't afford to be negative. it's a luxury I don't have.
