Hinamatsuri, or the Doll’s Festival, is a traditional Japanese event held on March 3rd every year to pray for the health, happiness, and growth of young girls. When my daughter was little, I used to invite her friends to throw parties for her. Although our daughter has grown up, we still celebrate the day in our own way.
The picture below shows hina dolls displayed at our grandson's nursery school. When we went there to pick him up, he showed the dolls very proudly. I took the photo at the moment. I'm very curious how much he understands about the festival.
On that day, I made sushi for our grandson. Even though he is a boy, I wanted to celebrate the occasion with him.
He showed us his handmade hina dolls, which made us smile. It was easy for us to guess which part he had made. He colored some paper blue and some pink. His teacher probably cut the paper and made the paper hina dolls. I told him that he should give his mother them when she got home. I'm sure when our daughter saw his first handmade hina dolls, she was very proud of him!
