Today I attended my friend's porcelain painting exhibit. She has held her own exhibits every three years at Righa Royal Hotel in Osaka, and she's one of my closest painting friends in the porcelain world. She has studied china painting with lots of different teachers, so her knowledge of it is very wide. She always gives me perfect advice, and I do always appreciate our friendship.
Unfortunately, photography wasn't allowed inside the exhibit, so I only took a few pictures from outside of the venue. I hope you can get a sense of what her show looked like. She always encourages me to hold my own exhibit, but I'm not interested in doing that. She's more interested in teaching techniques than in selling her hand-painted pieces. I'm totally the opposite. Even so, I think holding your own art shows appeal very well to people who are interested in the art, so I should do sometime.
The woman in pink is my friend.
I really enjoyed her wonderful show and our conversation. We are planning to have lunch together soon.
After the show, I also attended my kintsugi class. I'd been working on two broken pieces belonging to an American friend of mine for six years. I repaired each piece with a different technique. There is no gold line in the first picture below. That's because I didn't use gold powder, instead, I repaired the broken part blend in with the rest of parts. It's called 共直し (tomonaoshi) in Japanese. I learned the technique through this piece.
I fixed the other piece using the regular kintsugi technique.
I have to send them back to the US. I hope my American friend will receive them safely.
