My language learning

I started to do more English grammar exercises. While learning it through practice is important, I also found exercises a good way for me to remember the rule better. And I think I rather like doing such exercises, too. There're also translation exercises, which I enjoy. I love translating in general and even studied it (mostly written one). My pronunciation training also brought results: I realized that I often can hear the sound from the transcription now. My listening comprehension became much easier too, thanks to that. It's very important for me since it's probably my weakest spot in English. I even understand extracts from actors' interviews about the movies I started liking in my teens, and being able to understand them feels like a dream come true.

As for my Japanese studies, I decided just to have fun and enjoy the process, as I did before, without a goal to memorize everything and anything as soon as possible. This kind of approach made me stressed, and I lost a lot of motivation. Worrying about the mistakes too much stressed me out, too. I'm N2, and getting the further results isn't urgent for me at the moment, anyway. I had heard a Japanese song recently, and it reminded me how much I want to understand more. It's better to go slowly than completely give up.

I also sometimes study Chinese beginners' books, and I must admit that the knowledge of Japanese makes things easier for me, at least in terms of hieroglyphs, even with Chinese characters being simplified. I think acquiring the changes in tones depending on their order will take quite a lot of time and practice for me. I don't have fluency as a goal, and it's a very long-term project for me, so I intend to go in my own tempo without putting any pressure on myself.
