Less is more, really?

We live in a world when it seems that the more things you own, the easier your life would be. Let's take for instance the car’s exemple. In the vast majority of the countries, having a car is paramount for everyone who wants to be active, to be able to go to work and to do the most basic things like going to the super market, dropping the kids at school and picking them up at the end of the day and so on... The same goes with you smartphone, you computer and all the devices that might actually make your daily life way easier and add true value to it.

However, have you ever been in a situation where the fact of owning all these cool and fancy assets turned out to be more a source of painful headaches and concerns that peace of mind? A situation where you wish you have never owned something just in order to avoid all the potential issues that seem to inevitabely come with it? Personally, I have experienced this very situation multiple times.

I have mentioned above the car’s exemple. I have my own one which is something more than vital for me, since I live in a city (and a country in overall) where public transportations are not so developed. It is not a matter of means (at least, it is not the only obstacle), it is more a politic and a cultur. Indeed, we tend to lean heavily on cars more than any other way. Moreover, I work on a sale force team an I cover a pretty large territory, that is why I need to move constantly from a location to another in order to meet my clients. For these reasons and many others, my car is definitely an essential item and I am so grateful to have it.

Nonetheless, with all the benefits and the good things come some downsides that upset me on a regular basis. For instance, as your car get older, you are more likely to have to fix more and more stuffs on it, and that is super anoying not just because it increases you expenses obviously, but mostly because you have to seek out for the pieces you need (which is sometime a long and painful adventure in my country, because they are not always available) but also find a qualified professional and...

Similar bothering situations occur to me with my devices. One day it is my computer that becomes too slow because of a virus I cough or a new software that I use and which take all the space (Well, Iassume. In fact, I am far from being comfortable with everything related to computer science 😅). Another day, it is my smartphone which starts to run out of battery, to not works that good after an update, or causes me stress and anxiety because I receive too much calls and notifications!

When that happens, I can't stop thinking about those who are lucky enough to not have these kind of problems, and I wonder what my life would be like if get rid my car, phone... Would I be more zen? To be frank, I have these thoughts only when I have the inexpected surpises I have talked about above, the rest ot the time I am aware about the positive it brings to my life.

To Conclude, I think it is all about finding the right balance and be ready to go through some anoying periodes from time to time, and acknowledge that the vast majority of time it is a blessing.
