I found a funny phenomenon: in China, the childs read Chinese fast and always have no grammar errors. However, their vocabulary is small. When a foreign man study Chinese, I found the opposite things: They often have lots of things wrong with their grammar but always have more words to use.
When Chinese people learn a new language, they read texts slowly even they know all the grammars and the words in it. That is my confusion. I know thousands of words and have a little England local thinkings because of my European teacher. Nevertheless, I feel hard when I read an English novel or article and confuse about my reading speed. My friend from England reads and talks fast, with only a few glances he can finish the whole article. For me, I have to read word by word. though my speed is faster than my peers in my school, I want to be more faster. Can anyone give me some advices? Thanks!=)
I believe the reading speed will increase naturally as you move forward in your English learning journey. Now, if you let me, my piece of advice is: don't focus too much on that, at least for now. Take your time reading and make sure you're interpreting well and understand the message. Sometimes people read fast, but get nothing out of the text they just read and that isn't the point of reading. That being said, another good advice is to immerse yourself with English content, whichever media that may be, like books, music (try to follow along with the lyrics, like in karaoke :D), movies with subtitles on (in English!), videos on YouTube, social media (be careful though, there will be lots of painful grammar mistakes in the comments section) and I even dare you to Google or ask AI whatever that comes to mind in English, trust me on that! Hope that helps. For the record, I've been on this road for more than a decade now and I consider myself a lifelong English learner.
