I Had a Minor Accident

by

The last few days have been passing many things in my life, so I've been a bit offline from here. Now, I have my pinky and ring fingers wrapping together. Last Wednesday, I went to the gym and I accidentally pinched the skin on my pinky finger with an iron bar. It was a big deal because I lost a lot of blood and got it all over the floor, the water fountain, and the bathroom. I felt guilty because I was there with my husband, and I had to leave him alone.

I consider myself as a strong woman so I didn't want to go to an emergency room. Then, I bought some bandages and a liquid to clean my wound at the pharmacy. I'm a strong woman when I'm in middle of people that don't know me enough, but when I'm alone or with someone I have confidence, I'm like a baby. So, when I arrived at home, I could resist my tears. I needed to take advantage that my husband was still at the gym.

I made my bandages without any problem. We went to sleep like usually. The next morning we were worried, because my bed sheets and my pijamas were with blood, and my finger pain more. Then, we decided to go to a hospital.

First, I had an appointment with a general doctor, who evaluated my case. He was worried about me because my accident involved an iron bar in the gym. This bar is something that the gym personal would probably never clean (it's a weir place to clean). So, the doctor ordered a tetanus vaccine. Also, he was worried about my pinky bones, so he requested a X-Ray.

Later I had both, the vaccine and the X-Ray, so I saw the hand surgeon. He evaluated my X-Ray and gave me good news: I didn't have any broken bones. He explained to me that my wound was large enough to require stitches, but it was also wide, with a piece of skin in the middle that was still dangling. That's why it was better to not put stitches at all, and leave the piece of skin as is, like a dressing. By doing that, the wound is less likely to get infected, and will leave a smaller scar when it heals.

I'm currently taking some medications such as anti-inflammatories, painkillers, and antibiotics. I must not change the bandage by myself. A profesional would fo that instead, in five days.

P.S. Now, I have to wash the dishes or take a shower with a plastic bag covering my hand.
