As crime rates have increased over the last decade, governments have taken some action to reduce it, to provide the general public with a much safer environment. While some government officials enacted more deterring laws for would-be criminals, others chose different options like installing CCTV cameras on every corner of the city to tackle the crimes. But what are the benefits and possible drawbacks of setting up these cameras to fight crime? I will look at the pros and cons of using CCTV cameras in the city's specific points, supporting my ideas on this topic.
Let's begin by looking at the advantages. One of the major positives of installing CCTV cameras is that this method can increase public safety by monitoring every moment continuously. Observing and watching can give criminals a sense of awareness, knowing they should think twice before doing something wrong. Furthermore, this situation allows women to be safer at night.
Some research shows that the cities in which have CCTV cameras have reported lower crime rates than others. Using these cameras can effectively fight potential crimes, enabling people to roam comfortably without fearing attacks and other possible acts in the streets.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of using these cameras. Firstly, these cameras can be easily abused and broken by offenders or would-be criminals. So this can lead to more calculated crimes because criminals would want to be much more careful before committing a crime.
So governments might have to come up with more effective solutions, as criminals abuse these cautions. The other problem is that installing CCTV cameras on every corner of the city costs a lot of money for governments. So financial conditions should be considered too, as maintaining this much expensive system may not be affordable for every state.
To conclude, before using CCTV cameras to fight crime, governments should take into consideration both pros and cons of this system. While the system of monitoring people via cameras holds some promises like providing safety for the public, especially women at night, and reducing levels of crime, there are also some concerns regarding that these cameras can be broken and deactivated by crime gangs, and also can be very expensive to set up in every city. In my opinion, before investing in these types of systems, governments should observe their potential in some specific areas tentatively to save money and time.
This is some high quality stuff. Did you study journalism at an English university? Respect! (btw there are a couple minor things I didn't change, but they were more style than grammar, so I left them alone. Too complex and specific ^^)
Oh, thank you so much for this compliment! @LinFeng. I have never studied at an English university before :)) I am going to consider your advices in my future journals.
