I saw my first Tim Burton movie when I was a kid, maybe when I was nine years old. It was "Nightmare Before Christmas", I remember how shocked I was, but in a awesome way. All the colors, the characters, the nuances, the feelings and all those dark forms were a wonderful and, at that time, a terrific experience for me. But also, a crucial component of this movie was definitely special to me, and that was the music. With peculiar nuances and a really beautiful aura, hear the soundtrack of "Nightmare Before Christmas" is one of the greatest experiences that I've enjoyed. This movie is actually one of the reasons that I decided to study cinematography a couple years ago.
Once the movie begins, It becomes dark and deep, therefore, you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it, because has an enchanting sound that appeals to everybody.
The wonderful thing about this movie is the innocence and light of the characters in spite of all the darkness surrounding them.
Tim Burton is a genius and when he created this masterpiece, began a new era in American cinema. There was a clear expressionist influence in his work, especially from German Expressionism with all those large, tall, dark, deep and peculiar forms that created the most interesting cinematographic movement in terms of resources. The expressionist could mix the scenography from theatre, the strange forms of the expressionist paints and the Erich Mendelsohn's architecture. Altogether, these things gave Burton the perfects resources to work and make this film that is, undoubtedly, one of the best animated films in the history of cinema.
