Ceramic Art Show in Kyoto

Last week, after my porcelain painting lesson, my teacher took two of my friends and me to a ceramic art show organized by an association. My teacher was one of the main hosts of the event. As she walked through the exhibition, she explained each piece to us, and we followed her while admiring the works on display. The art show featured by craftswomen who've been working in Kyoto. All of them are professional artists who've been selling their artwork for years. They are the kind of artists I admire and want to become.

I was especially inspired by the piece in the photo below. The artist clearly has a unique style that no one can imitate. I'd love to have my own style everybody can recognize my art. I believe that it's important for being an artist.

I found interest on this piece (see the picture below). The black and gold combination looked very sophisticated and elegant.

This matchawan (tea bowl) in the picture below caught my eye. I liked the design because I'd never thought of creating a black matchwan before.

These coffee cup and saucer sets looked very modern among all the typical Japanese style ceramics. I enjoy drinking coffee from simple, clean designs like these. It feels the simple cup makes coffee taste better.

There was also a lamp made from porcelain. ( see the picture below)

The piece in the next photo showed such strong determination. I know from experience that drawing precise patterns requires a lot of patience and practice.

I received lots of new ideas while looking at these amazing pieces. None of the pieces looked the same, and each had its own unique charm.

I now have a new goal. I'd love to join this association because I can exhibit and sell my art through their shows. I know it's not simple because most of artists in Kyoto have graduated from formal ceramic schools but I'm not. I started porcelain painting as a hobby. I still don't know how I can become a member, but I truly believe that where there is a will, there is a way!
