What Comes First, Work Or Family?

by

Today, many people dedicate themselves to studying and working to make a living, and mostly these pursuits result in spending less time with family. Some people claim that achieving a career outweighs devoting that time to loved ones, especially family, whereas others say vice-versa.

This essay will explore arguments for both sides and provide my opinion on this complicated issue.

After reaching a certain level in life, people are expected to make a career decision or start a family or both. For many people, having professional achievement can meet this expectation by earning lots of money and having a respectful lifestyle. When considering all outcomes together, people have to decide the priorities in life as time is precious. Devoting one's existence to a job and turning away from family and friends can significantly impact an individual's psychology as humans have to meet their needs in socializing with other people. After a while, people keen on their careers too much begin not to be satisfied with their works because they lack real emotions shared with family and close friends. This situation leaves people alone and drives them into isolation as time goes by.

When looking at the other side of the argument, most of the time, the family is the foundation that gathers the members, forging a mutual bond. From marrying someone to bringing up a child together, parents and other family members undertake many duties, help each other achieve something, and be there when needed. Take you are giving birth to a child. If someone is there to take care of all your troubles, you feel relaxed and confide in that person. Getting support and help from someone is very important, especially when you are in a pickle or get into debt. So dedicating time to family and giving them attention is also required not to feel alone and isolated. As a result, the expected thing is feeling bolstered and having someone there when needed or getting older.

All things considered, even if having a great career life satisfy people to some extent, people's primary need is to feel valued. Spending enough time with family makes people much more loyal and happier. Finding a balance between these two is necessary, so people don't have to feel either they could not achieve their business goals because of their family obligations or spare enough time for their family due to their workload.
