A Typical Winter Night

I practiced some easy Japanese phrases. Then, my brother came back with his friend and some eggplants.

I lost concentration for Japanese, but I felt like cooking a meal with eggplants from the north of my country. I cooked and after eating it for dinner, I got alone and started making some homemade pickles and eggplant relish. I've never heard the word relish before, but I think it does exist cuz I looked it up.

I filmed myself and tried to edit it the way the videos of my favorite YouTube grandmas are edited.

I don't know if they're called ASMR because ASMR soft spoken videos are annoying to my ears, but I'm a fond of natural sounds.

Someone asked me why I delete my posts even though this person thought I liked writing a lot. I don't know. I might delete this post, too. Maybe either I'm not comfortable talking about my personal life, or I'm kind of a loner who uses writing as a silent companion.

Is loner a negative word? I didn't mean to use it as negative for myself. I like being alone and not being alone at the same time. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Ingredients:

1. Eggplants 1k

2. Garlic 2 big ones

3. Persian shallot/ Allium stipitatum 1 small cup

3. Red vinegar 5 cups ( It doesn't have to go above eggplants.

Salt 0.3 tablespoon

The Spices:

Coriandar seeds 5 tsp

Cumin 2 tsp

Fennel 1 tsp ( I added it, but not necessary)

Nigella seeds 1 full spoon ( grind and roast it)

Cinnamon 1 tsp

Tamarind 200 gr

Chili pepper powder ๐ŸŒถ ( the more, the merrier)

Black pepper powder 1 tsp

Chili pepper flakes ( based on your taste)

Note: These are used for 5 kg eggplants, but we like it spicy. That's why I use it for 1kg eggplants.

Recipe:

  • Soak the Persian shallots in water for at least 5 hours. You can cut or grind them because they're not going to get soft ever.

  • Soak tamarind in water for an hour so that you can separate the seeds.

Wash and dry your eggplants. Cut off the stem end and the green part of the cap, but leave the cap intact. Cut them in half.

Boil them in water if you want softer relish. (Don't worry if you don't boil them in water. I think it's just time consuming )

Then, let them dry. Then, add other ingredients, which are Persian shallot, garlic, pepper flakes and the mixture of the spices.

Then, boil them in vinegar and salt for an hour. Then, mix them and add tamarind and smash them later.
