I practiced some easy Japanese phrases. Then, my brother came back with his friend and some eggplants.
I lost concentration for Japanese, but I felt like cooking a meal with eggplants from the north of my country. I cooked and after eating it for dinner, I got alone and started making some homemade pickles and eggplant relish. I've never heard the word relish before, but I think it does exist cuz I looked it up.
I filmed myself and tried to edit it the way the videos of my favorite YouTube grandmas are edited.
I don't know if they're called ASMR because ASMR soft spoken videos are annoying to my ears, but I'm a fond of natural sounds.
Someone asked me why I delete my posts even though this person thought I liked writing a lot. I don't know. I might delete this post, too. Maybe either I'm not comfortable talking about my personal life, or I'm kind of a loner who uses writing as a silent companion.
Is loner a negative word? I didn't mean to use it as negative for myself. I like being alone and not being alone at the same time. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Ingredients:
1. Eggplants 1k
2. Garlic 2 big ones
3. Persian shallot/ Allium stipitatum 1 small cup
3. Red vinegar 5 cups ( It doesn't have to go above eggplants.
Salt 0.3 tablespoon
The Spices:
Coriandar seeds 5 tsp
Cumin 2 tsp
Fennel 1 tsp ( I added it, but not necessary)
Nigella seeds 1 full spoon ( grind and roast it)
Cinnamon 1 tsp
Tamarind 200 gr
Chili pepper powder ๐ถ ( the more, the merrier)
Black pepper powder 1 tsp
Chili pepper flakes ( based on your taste)
Note: These are used for 5 kg eggplants, but we like it spicy. That's why I use it for 1kg eggplants.
Recipe:
- Soak the Persian shallots in water for at least 5 hours. You can cut or grind them because they're not going to get soft ever.
- Soak tamarind in water for an hour so that you can separate the seeds.
Wash and dry your eggplants. Cut off the stem end and the green part of the cap, but leave the cap intact. Cut them in half.
Boil them in water if you want softer relish. (Don't worry if you don't boil them in water. I think it's just time consuming )
Then, let them dry. Then, add other ingredients, which are Persian shallot, garlic, pepper flakes and the mixture of the spices.
Then, boil them in vinegar and salt for an hour. Then, mix them and add tamarind and smash them later.

I watched your video and absolutely enjoyed it! I wish I could make video like yours!!! The food look very interesting!
You say you prefer being alone, and I think we all sometimes need privacy. I especially love being alone while painting because I can focus on more.
Enjoy being alone!!!
Hi Zobayda, Surprisingly, I bought eggplants today from the local market and was looking for a new recipe to make them. :) I watched your video, could you please add the ingredients and the steps here as well? I've never heard of black cumin and we only use tamarind for making drinks, not food! Interesting!
@Double-Zee Hi, Zeeza. I'll add them later today. I hope before your eggplants get rotten. The black seeds are nigella sativa. I don't know their informal name. We call them black seeds. Now I'm curious about tamarind drinks. BTW, this food tastes better with any fish dish.
@yumiyumayume I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much, Yumi! I'm sure you can.
Take your time, @Zobayda I still don't have all the ingredients you mentioned in your video so I might try it another day! :)
As for the tamarind drinks, we just soak dry tamarind in water to make cold drinks or add it to boiled one to have it as a hot drink, and you add sugar as your preference.
That's interesting. I added the recipe. Feel free to ask me questions. I just noticed I'd forgotten to add salt. ๐ @Double-Zee
Thank you, Zobayda!
I haven't noticed the shallots when I watched the video! Google says it's a species of onion!! Maybe I can replace it with onion! And of course, I'll not add any chili as I don't like spicy food! :))
I know the black seeds, I got confused and read them as "black cumin" which I've never heard about.
No, don't add onions. Add garlic and carrots. I wrote black cumin mistakenly. I didn't know its name. @Double_Z Of course, you can try it, but it's used in another kind of relish. I'm the one who's not a fan of onions.๐
Ahh, okay then carrots instead of shallots! Thank you!
You're welcome!
