An English class: A-students perspective

My name’s Derek, and I’m part of that mad Year Four bunch! I’m a right laugh, if I do say so myself, and I’m doing well as an A-student. My mate Daniel is an A student too, but get this—he’s actually my parrot! We’re both proper keen on music. I play the violin, while Daniel’s all about the guitar.

Sometimes, we even pop along to concerts where we’re the stars of the show! I’m well into hip-hop, and it turns out Daniel is too. We’ve made our school halls into a dance floor, and when our classmates crank up the tunes, we just can’t help but bust a move. Our home teacher joins in with the clapping because, honestly, we’re that good! It’s a right good time, and I wouldn’t swap it for anything!

I don’t just enjoy dancing and singing; I also love telling jokes. Here’s my favourite: 'Why did the tomato turn red? Because it saw the salad dressing!' My parrot is quite the comedian too, and we often have a laugh with our English teacher during breaks. He’s a really fun chap and gets the humour pretty well.

My parrot, Daniel, is totally obsessed with video games! He’s practically glued to the screen! He dives into Cyberpunk and Fortnite until the crack of dawn, and we often team up on Roblox to create our own games. I’m a huge fan of Counter-Strike and absolutely crazy about Dota—those two really get my adrenaline pumping! But I’m careful not to lose track of time; I’ve got to keep it in check. I just have to remind myself, 'Hey, Derek, that’s enough gaming for one night! By the way, here he is, my parrot!

"Hello, I’m Daniel, Derek’s mate! Actually, he’s my parrot too. My buddy has shared quite a bit about me, and it’s all true—I really love my friend! He’s a lot of fun. We often hang out together after school and after my dance class.

We play Fortnite and Roblox, but I’m also a big fan of chess. Derek enjoys chess, but I want to become a real pro in the game. I’m actually the Year 4 chess champion among all the Year 4 students at our school! Whenever there’s a championship against kids from other schools in the area, I’m always in the mix. A few times, I’ve even snagged fourth, third, and second place in chess competitions!

My favorite subject is math because I just love logic. I also want to start taking robotics construction classes, but unfortunately, I can't find the time. Another one of my favorite subjects is English. I really enjoy the language, just like my parrot Derek!"

"Yes, we really enjoy English! As I mentioned earlier, I love our English teacher's humor. I'm also quite fond of his accent; it makes the lessons even more enjoyable!"

"Yeah, he’s got a real posh British accent!

My parrot Daniel and I often ask our English teacher to explain some cool British idioms. His English is super quirky, and I totally enjoy it!", Daniel confirmed

"Actually, in my family, we usually speak with an American accent and use a lot of slang. We watch tons of American movies, and my uncle is a huge fan of everything American!"

Yo, let me tell you about our English classes—they're a blast! My parrot and I are all about them. Our teacher’s a riot and totally digs us. So, me and a few other kids just hit him with questions, especially on Thursdays. The dudes in the back go wild and sometimes just bounce outta class. So, my buddy and I try to keep the teacher chill and distract him from the chaos.

"Can you believe it? We’ve got thirty-four kids crammed into a classroom meant for only twenty-five. Our teacher's a champ, though; he scrounges up two extra seats for our eager beaver pals, even putting one at the piano and giving up his own chair for another student. That’s mad nice of him!" Daniel chimed in.

"I just don’t get why the school can’t hook us up with a bigger classroom on Thursdays. That would totally fix a ton of issues we’re dealing with."

"Right? My parrot and I are totally on the same wavelength. I told my mom about it, and she’s not vibing with the cramped classroom on Thursdays. It’s like trying to play chess on thirty-two squares instead of sixty-four!"
