An immigration agency

I was asked to take a survey while walking down the street. It was about a needs of immigration office. The background of this issue was the absence of immigration agency. Come to think of it, I realized that the number of foreigners are continuously increasing not only at uniersity but also industrial fields.

I can see people who have naturalized in Korea. Back in the day, I thought each country was based on a certain ethnicity and Korean was considered as single race which consists of descendants called 'Han'. However, for now, I would say that Korean consists of various people who have different roots when it comes to history, culture, religion, and country. I am still perplexed when I meet naturalised Korean and especially when their appearances are different from my expectation or prejudice. I understand it intellectually, but it doesn't reasonate with me.

My worry is that I don't know what defines Korean. The location of birth cannot be the reason which decides the originality because contemporary people move in and out relatively freely compared to the past. Also, COUNTRY can make the geographically border among countries but the border doesn't give enough explanation about the people who live within each border.

I've heard a slogan "Yes or No, we are all Australian" after the voice to Parliment. It was impressed because I consider this phenomenon would expand to many countries along with a trend of immigration and globalization. I am sure this Australia situation is quite unique with USA compared to Korean when it comes to population composition and length of history as a country. I feel like they emphasized their countries rather than the ethnicity while Korea put a priority on the ethnity.

I need to be educated to adjust myself to this change. I don't know how our governmemt gives foreigners citizenship and with what kind of requirement. If all born in Korean have to take an exam to be admitted as Korean, I am not sure if I am eligible for that because there are tons of things that I am not familiar with in history and policy.

I believe that there are still conflicts within territory between people who were born in and have grown up in the same country and one who have different background from other countries. Even countries with long history of immigration and accepting refugees have issue abouy discrimination. Therefore, it will take long time to mix all people as much as every ethnity become ambigue.

I don't know which stance I will stick for immigration because it is not simple problem to say yes or no and there are a lot of details. Nevertheless I agree that we need to set the immigration agency which covers integrated immigration works.
