A couple of weeks ago, I finished reading "The crucible". I've set a goal to improve my reading comprehension skills every year by reading books in English. This year's goal is sixteen books, as usual. I've achieved halfway to my goal. As it is, it was recommended by my American friend.

Reading it was a little bit challenging for me because it's my first time reading a play in English. It took a while to get use to the writing style.

Before I started, my friend explained the Salem witch trials, which is the original idea for the book, and his explanation helped my understanding. The story was crazy, and I visualized it as if I were watching the play.

When I chatted with my other American friend, he shared the deeper meaning of the book. It was also very interesting to hear. The book's author, Arthur Miller, who is know as Marilyn Monroe's second husband, was an active writer in the 50's. Back then, American society was dealing with McCarthyism. I remember a scene from "Being the Reccardos" on Amazon Prime, where Lucy Ball (played by Nicol Kidman) was suspected a socialist. People were insane for founding Communist party members.

Sometimes, group-think can drive people to madness, and this book asks us what justice truly is. I'm glad that I enjoyed reading it and learned a part of American history at the same time.
