We all have that one game that is special to us. One game that shaped our taste in video games. I know it's not the best title in the world but the love and nostalgia I have for this one is unmeasurable. In my case, it's Donkey Kong Country 2, launched in 1995 for the Super Nintendo . I can't put into words how this cartridge made me feel when I was a teen. It's because of this adventure that I got to be good at the platforming genre - I don't mean to brag, but I'm a pro at this moment. This Donkey Kong entry made me appreciate Nintendo and platforming games as a whole even more.
The soundtrack, composed by the talented David Wise is exquisite. The graphics were superb for the time it released. The gameplay was ahead of its time. The challenge each level offered was fun and original. The platforming was on point. Countless of hours I was immersed in the world of Donkey Kong. Undoubtedly, the happiest hours of my life.
What's the best video game ever made for you?
Very well done! I've loved playing Final Fantasy IX and have played it every couple of years. I've done so in 3 different languages, since playing videogames in my target language is my favorite way of maintaining/improving foreign language skills. Always been a sucker for JRPG games ever since!
Great article. Your passion for videogames really comes across. I've never played any Donkey Kong games as I was a Sega then a Sony kid when I was growing up in the 90s. I've definitely embraced Nintendo games since then - they are mostly high quality and extremely good fun. I'd say for me my most formative gaming experiences were Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 on the Sega Mega Drive and Final Fantasy 7 on the Playstation.
