Nowadays, the trend of people moving from rural areas to urban areas is ubiquitous. People's desire to seek a good job or life has driven them to swarm into cities. However, even though living in a city brings huge benefits and convenience, it does have some drawbacks. I strongly believe that the increasing inequality between the rural population and the urban population is not a part of the blueprint for the future.
On the one hand, well-developed infrastructure accelerates people's efficiency. Such as less commuting time due to the better public transport system. It means people can spend more time working and producing more value for society, boosting the development of it as well. Besides, premium educational and medical resources are more available in cities compared with rural areas, which laid the impression to people that living in the city is the prerequisite for a healthy and happy life.
On the other hand, more urban citizens bring some significantly negative impacts to society. One of them is more and more elders whose children go to the city for a living, leaving them behind in the rural home. The high expense of living in the cities makes raising old parents closely unaffordable to many young people. Therefore, they have to leave their parents at home, without adequate care. In addition to that, the capacity of one city to contain population is limited, if too many people live in one city at the same time, some advantages will turn into disadvantages. For example, traffic jam is an unsolved problem in many big cities. Daily commuting keeps taking people a way more considerable time because of endless car lines on the road, reducing dramatically people's working outputs.
In conclusion, urbanization is inevitable to cater to people's expectations of a better life. But if all people just flow into cities mindlessly, the positively imaginary life will be shown in a negatively real way to us.
