The line chart illustrates how many shops were closed and opened in a given country from 2011 to 2018.
Overall, both the number of shop closures and openings experienced a downward trend with some fluctuations.
In 2011, there were 8500 shops that closed. After that, the number of shop openings decreased sharply to 4000 in 2012, before rising gradually and reaching 6200 in 2014. In the following year, it fell again to 4000 and remained stable at around 4000 from 2015 to 2017. At the end of the period, this figure hit a low of 3000 shops.
The number of shop closures fluctuated more wildly. In 2011, approximately 6400 shops were closed. This number decreased slightly to 6000 in the following year, before hitting a peak of 7200 in 2013. Then, it fell to 6500 in 2014 and plummeted to 500 in 2015. After that, it rose quickly to 5100 and stayed unchanged at around 5100 to the end of the period.
