Hi everyone! I'm preparing for the C1 Cambridge exam so I'm practicing writing. I would like you to assess this one, please. The exercise is about writing a proposal in 220-260 words. It requires suggesting a deserving person to be honored in the town, giving reasons for the choice and suggesting a suitable way in which this hero should be honored. The local hero can be an ordinary citizen, (EVERYTHING FICTIONAL).

This is what I've written. I'd appreciate your feedback and corrections. Thank you :)

Last Sunday, I read the announcement on the council website and I would like to propone someone who really deserves to be honoured in our town. The more I was reading the notice the more came to my mind a person really special for me.

My hero

Back in my early school years, my grandfather used to talk me about his friend called Chandler Delaney, who also would go to the schoolyard to take his grandson back home. It was a fact that man seemed to be an average citizen and hardly people knew he was the school founder. Chandler, who unfortunaltely passed away last year, was a former teacher whose dream had always been to build a school for the most vulnerable children.

His life porpuse

After the devastating consecuencies of the civil war, most of the parents were not able to take care of theirs children’s education. Having almost everything against him and being sorrounding by the most hopeless circumstances, Chandler decided to assist as much as he could in teaching the local children to read and write. When things got better, he contact the major of the town and they begun to take the first steps to build the school which unpredictablely would became one the most prestigious ones in the region.

His rewarding

If this suggestion is finally accepted by the council, I would suggest that the school should name “Chandler Delaney School” from now. Moreover, I would really appreciate if every year, the school chorus sang his favorite song the anniversary day the building was raised.
