Dear journalers, like many of you, I'm so grateful that Robin come up with such wonderful ideas to help us acquire a foreign language, building a community of supporting and generous people that without any additional encouragement, they help each other . Journaly will definitely help us improve our writing and composition. The book club will streghten our vocabulary, improve our understanding of grammar paterns and, nurture discussion topics.
I was wondering what other future projects, as wonderful as Journaly; will be feasible. Despite the fact that we can practice our listening with series and movies, there are interesting podcasts and videos without subtitles, so it ocurred to me if it would be useful to set up a website where people can embed short videos and audios with a transcript of what they understand and other people like here, correct it.
What other strategies could be useful in our learning of another language? Maybe I'm rushing too much
Hi Sofía, this is a great topic. You are definitely right that this might be a helpful tool, though at this moment, a whole new website may be a little impractical haha. A possible solution though: I have seen a couple of other Journaly users (I have done this as well) link to a YouTube video in their post here on Journaly, where we have transcribed what we understood just from listening. If it is something like a song, where there is an official text, then you can compare for yourself in your post. But, if it is like a vlog or a section of a podcast without an official text, then I am sure other users here on Journaly would be more than happy to give a listen for themselves in order to help provide corrections in spots you may have misheard. Best of luck with your learning journey!
Hi sofia, i have joined journaly for the book club too. I am reading it in spanish. What about you?
Oh i have just read your idea of subtitling videos and podcasts. That's a great one. I think we can absolutely start here on Journally. I plan to start soon myself.
I like a commentors suggestion of linking youtube videos where we can correct audios!
Thanks for your feedback Rhys, Weijun and Sandro, I'm planning reading in Portuguese, I found an audiobook version in YouTube. Rhys I'm doing transcripts of short videos, when I revised my first transcript I was able to understand the gaps and misunderstood words, so for me it's a useful strategie to assess my progress. Thanks for the suggestion of using Journaly for transcripts
Say... Mr Native Speaker here... what is the "book club"?
