Hello everyone!
I'm back with a post in English this time, since I'm much more confident with that than with German (would anyone be interested in Greek posts as well?)! Greece is back in lock-down until the end of November so I think it's a good time to focus on my languages again, even though I have some work for uni as well.
German:
German is my main language and the one I've been studying for the longest. It's also the only one I'm having actual classes in, with a teacher. My main goal for this year are to prepare for the B1/B2 exam (and pass it, of course). The problem is, that the exams were supposed to be held in November but now no one knows what exactly will happen with the COVID situation... We don't even have an announcement so I'll just keep studying and hope for the best. My second goal is to read at least one complete book in German. I've already started one but I'm just 60 pages in (out of 600). I still have a lot of unknown vocabulary that I have to look up which is making it more tiring.
Korean:
Even though I've been studying Korean for a few years I see very little progress... What I want to do now is to review all the Talk To Me In Korean lessons I've already studied so I refresh my memory on grammar. My biggest problem, though, is that I have very limited vocabulary knowledge, even on a very basic level. Another thing I want to do, is to finish a few Korean dramas I've started, if you can count it as a language goal. I wanted to also take the TOPIK 1 exam but this year it was also cancelled, not because of COVID but because of the very little interest unfortunately. I hope it's back again next year, when I'll be much more prepared.
Italian:
This summer I started learning Italian with my mum. She was interested in the language and I thought, why not add another language as well. We found some books and online resources and just started learning a few stuff. Now that I'm back home and in quarantine, I think it's a good opportunity to get back at it. I don't have a specific goal for Italian apart from wanting to learn some grammar and vocabulary on a very basic level.
Russian:
As if I didn't already try to learn three languages, I kind of want to learn Russian as well now. I know this is a huge mistake and it won't get me anywhere (since I already find it extremely difficult to focus on 2-3 languages) but that never stopped me! My only goal for now is to learn the alphabet and the correct pronunciation and maybe a few basic words.
I know my language goals are very very vague but I've never been someone to have specific ones. Maybe that's the problem and why I don't make a lot of progress but I'm not really good at following programs! Corrections are always welcome on my English as well!
See you on my next post,
Evelyn
Hey Evelyn! Your English is great, and only has some small errors, but nothing major! It was also super interesting to hear your different language goals, even though the only one I overlap with is for Russian :)) Good luck to you with your tests and your language goals!
Your command of the English language is commendable. Keep up the great work.
What book are you reading in German? I'm gathering resources for when I finally am able to revive my German skills! I also want to learn Greek one day because I went to visit one of my friends in Greece in 2018 and I absolutely fell in love with the country, I would love to go back as soon as the world starts opening up again! I think your language goals are great, even if some languages aren't as clearly defined as others, I like your approach of wanting to absorb content in a language rather than to "attain a [insert CEFR level here] level" - not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, your goals just sound a lot more defined! Your English is so natural, I honestly forgot I was supposed to be looking for mistakes when I was reading haha! Happy studying!
@FocaFofa I'm reading the Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan but it's more difficult than I thought it would be... I'm so glad you like Greece, I hope you can visit again soon! Saying my English looks natural is the best compliment you could have given me! I had been studying it for so long and it looks like it's paying off!!
Hi Evelyn, your English is good. Just keep at it. As far as, Greek posts are concerned I would be interested. I'm Greek American and can read, write, and speak Greek. Αλλά πάντα θελω να βελτιώσω στο γράψιμο. Δεν υπάρχει θέμα καθόλου άν γράφεις στα ελληνικά.
