Hello everyone!
I've seen a post about dormitory recently and I want to share my experience living in a dormitory.
Having graduated from school, I had so many options where to apply. I had been thinking about continuing studying at school, but my parents decided for me to apply to Maritime College in other city. Since the college is 49 km far away from my native city, I had to live in dormitory. I could have taken a bus for hour and half every day, but If I had decided to do that , I would've woken up at 5:30 every day and spent money and time for this. I remember myself didn't mind doing this and wasting an awful lot of time on this. But as much as I wish, my father made me live in dormitory and I'm grateful that I agreed with him.
However, first year of living in dormitory was awful, since I just couldn't get used to it. When I move out to my new room, the room looked like a prison: white wallpapers, few tables and three beds. Certainly, we did repair in the room in order to make it more comfortable for living. I had been living this year with two people in a small room that barely fitted for 3 people living together. We hadn't been talking with each other for three months, no matter how funny it sounds, but it's a truth. We could say "hi" to each other and that was it. It was tough for me to cope with this, since I assume I'm an introvert and I always needed a private space. Nevertheless, I ended up living in a small room with two people. I assume I had my head in clouds in that period of time.
After three months of silence, we became more friendly, except one thing. One of my roommates was kind of addicted to playing computer games and had an insatiable appetite for playing. He did homework and then played all day. I can't say that it concerned me. I didn't mind him playing and wasting his own time for that. However, the most annoying part of whole this game thing was him talking with other guys while he was playing games. He was a quite loud and me and my another roommate was trying to tell him delicately to stop this. Nevertheless he had nodded and continued talking with his friends. After a while we told him explicitly that we don't want him to live with us. Life story short, that was my first year of college.
I'm going to write the second part tomorrow. Let me know if you liked it.
Marco
Very interesting Marco, I'm ready for part 2!
Thanks, Rachel. The second part will come up tomorrow :) The interesting stories will be there haha
Being fortunate enough to have my own room in a rented flat, I always wondered how people cope with annoying habits of others in such small space. I can't wait to read how the next years went :)
Wait, so what happened to your roommate? Did you guys kick him out?
Hey Marco! Nice story. I've had a similar experience in my student flat - we lived with four in total, and one guy that was living in our flat was a total game addict. He had recently completed his education to become a game engineer (the irony) when I moved in. Because he couldn't find a job immediately he was just sitting in his room all night (he would sleep during the day) and play video games. He'd shout at the computer, using crazy swear words. I often had to go to his room at 2 A.M. telling him that I need sleep and asking him if he could please stop shouting. He always said yes but in reality he never stopped. I was never brave enough to tell him how it was impacting my life and only gently asked him to stop, but in retrospect I think I should have stepped up earlier. Sleep deprivation because of a swearing, shouting roommate is pretty shitty. I really applaud that you were brave enough to tell him you want him to move out!
