That Is Life

Angela read a blog where an American named Nick complained that he had not made real friends when he had lived in an Asian country. Most of the time, people talked to him just to practice English, which made him feel he was taken advantage of.

Most people Nick met were busy with their lives and families. It had been frustrating that no one had been interested in getting to know him as a person from a foreign country. He decided not to spend his time on those who did not deserve it.

Angela could understand Nick’s feelings. She had some language partners she had talked to for a while, and she thought she had developed strong friendships with them. When their lives changed and did not have much time to talk to her regularly, she felt disappointed about it as well. However, she soon understood if she were in her language partners’ shoes, she would probably make them upset, although she did not mean to.

She came to realize that just because things changed did not mean their friendships would fade away. It is natural that people come and go in her life. That is life.
