Yesterday, we did an experiment with water and electricity.
We wanted to learn "Does water conduct electricity?" So we used the batteries, wires with crocodile clips, LEDs, aluminum foil, cups, some distilled water and a lot of sugar and salt.
We made a circuit to tested the distilledwater, sugar solution, salt solution.
Turn 1
We poured distilled water into the cup. It was very clean. There's no dirt or salt.
We try to turn on the LED light---
Uh-Oh!!!
The light was off.
So, the distilled water did not conduct electricity.
Turn 2
We added sugar to the water and stirred to make it dissolve.
We try to turn on the LED light again---
Uh-Oh!!!!!
The light was off.
So, the sugar solution did not conduct electricity.
but---
The salt solution turn on the LED light!!!
I was surprised.
\
When salt dissolves in the water, it makes ions. Ions carry a little bit of electricity. So, the salt solution can conduct electricity.
WOW!!!
This experiment was very awesome!!!
