Thoughts on social clock

Hiii guys! It's my first time posting an English journal and I really appreciate your help correcting my English and making it more natural sounding. Thank you so much and have a great day :D

Last week, I was having this conversation with my parents about marriage. I told them marriage is certainly not a necessity in life. It would be the best if you can find someone you love and spend the rest of your life together, creating a family, having kids and dogs, helping each other out on this journey, ect. But we all know that is the ideal case, and not all of us get lucky, meeting the right person at the right time. Worst case scenario, if we end up being single, I think it's okay to live the life happily as our wishes by ourselves. However, my parents went pissed about this claim. They said something like generations of people get married when it is time. 'Generations of people follow this life pattern for a reason so you should also do the right thing in the right time', they said.

That conversation made me ponder. Somehow, I felt like I was forced to achieve an expectation from my society. A social expectation that pushes me to follow a pace that is not even mine. For example, you should finish school at around twenty two or twenty five, get a job right after graduation, get married before thirty five, have children before forty, etc. This social expectation has been there for so long that many people, especially the older generations here, just take it for granted and view it as a standard for living. But people vary greatly from one another. How can they expect every individual to fit into that 'model'?

Beside, every decision comes with pros and cons so the so-called perfect choice doesn't even exist. Therefore, I think it is more important to know what you want instead of blindly following the crowd. It may be easier said than done to stand on my ground and bear the pressure from this social clock. But at least I'm trying :)
