When two geniuses disagree about something
Tom Jobim was at "Bar Veloso" drinking with friends, the same Bar where he and Vinicius de Moraes composed the song "Girl from Ipanema". The waiter interrupted him and said that there was a "gringo" on the phone. He promptly took the phone, it was an overseas call, on the other side of the line was Frank Sinatra. Sinatra offered Jobim a partnership in his new album and Jobim accepted. In 1967 Tom Jobim flew to the USA and started to record "Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim". It did not take too long for Jobim and Sinatra to have some arguments. Jobim didn't like the fact that Sinatra did not care about the rehearsal. Sinatra was more natural, whereas Jobim was used to spending all day at the bar singing and composing. Although, together they made the album a success. Back in Brazil, Jobim never expressed a negative view of Sinatra. When he was asked he just said that Sinatra was a nice guy. They made a second album together but that was the last collaboration. When Sinatra made a show in Brazil he invited Jobim but he never showed up. When somebody was trying to confirm some information with Jobim he said: "In Brazil, people burn trees, is an upside-down country"
