Hey! This is my last practice essay before I take the IELTS exam this weekend, so any feedback is welcomed.

People in the creative industry make a living in a different way than most people in other fields. Some individuals have the idea that the government should give financial compensation to these people. I disagree to some extent, however I do think that institutions should show more support for the arts.

Artists and creatives can make a reasonable amount of money though self-managing and a variety of types of income. Instead of looking for someone to employ them, it’s far more common for these people to create their own projects. However, since revenue doesn’t tend to be high, artists choose to work on several endeavors at a time. A painter can be working on personal pieces while she also teaches classes, gets commissions and sells postcards. Creatives don’t need to rely on one alternative to get enough money.

Nevertheless, support from the government would be helpful to start their careers. Scholarships and monetary assistance serve the students who don’t have a regular income yet or if they come from less privileged backgrounds. For creatives with a relatively established career, incentives could still boost their practice through biennials and contests that can make their work known to a wider public. It’s still the government’s duty to promote the arts.

In sum, it isn’t necessary for the government to give money to artists without reason, but they should plan to implement more incentives and general support. Arts are an important part of society and should be treated with the same respect as other professions.
