196+ countries, newspapers, and letters | Day 40 Burkina Faso - French. When I picked up French a few years ago, I didn’t expect that I would use the language to learn more personally about the lives of people living outside France. I read a few articles in French about recent shootings 😭 (likely to be a vendetta) and midwives in Burkina Faso. The latter article was really interesting, as midwives are trying to help mothers with their childbirth better. I also learned a heart-warming expression from the speech of the president of l’Association pour la promotion des sages-femmes et maïeuticiens du Burkina Faso (APSAM/BF): «Les femmes burkinabè ont le cœur sur la main», which literally means, “the women in Burkina Faso have the heart on the hand, i.e., the heart of gold. 💛

In addition, a folktale I read, Princess Yennenga, was an inspiring story about a brave, independent woman seeking adventure and her fortunes on horseback! 🏇🏾 The Golden Stallion, taken from the tale, is the top prize awarded at the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO). 🏆 I wonder if I can find a movie from Burkina Faso on Korean Netflix. 🤔
