I have always thought that one of my favorite things about computing is the community that surrounds this world. If you have a problem, you can almost always find a solution on a free public site provided by a person in exchange for nothing. This is something that geeks have assumed normal, but it feels strange for non-techie people when you explain it to them. The most common phrase that people typically repeat is “And, do people spend their leisure time for free?”. It’s hard to explain, even to myself, why do people work for the community. The most reasonable thought that I found is that we love what we do.
