It's not a post about who was right or wrong. Just a opinion about what happened.
I really like to watch movies and series. But I never watched a Oscar Ceremony. I just like to watch some movies without a judgements or pay attention in photography, colors. I don't have a technical eye for these things.
I like to repair humans and way that they talk, walk, the many expressions in his faces. In general. Be on movies or real life.
Until the slap that Will Smith gave on Chris Rock, I didn't know the disease that Will Smith's wife have and I didn't watch the movie G.I. Joe, at least that I remember. But for me, it was impossible realize some things after, during and before the slap.
Before slap, all public was laughing with the joke that Chris talked. And the same public, by the way directors, actors, actresses, laughing with the joke about Smith's wife. And after, the same audience thought the joke made by Rock was wrong.
About that, I would like to make a question: If Will Smith didn't hit a Chris Rock face with a slap, would you have noticed the joke?
My answer is no, I din't. I didn't know that Smith's wife have alopecia and I think that many people didn't know too.
The point is bringing to wide vision about all the thing that we make and judge: Are we defending our own ideas or an collective idea about values?
I think we just defend our own ideas, cause nobody can know what we're going through. I heard in a video that we should never talk about Black women's hair, because it's a pretty important thing for them. And I get that, I mean, I don't like being the target of a joke about my insecurities.
Hi, you made a poignant point here. I find with how "progressive" society has gotten that it has also become too sensitive, we have come to the point of "cancel culture", being "politically correct" etc but these are all just forms of "hidden" censorship. I sometimes wonder if a collective thought still exists. We really need to just get over ourselves and stop with the narcissism.
Comedians make jokes and it is common knowledge that Chris Rock's style like many others is to make jokes about people. But in a society full of ego, people take themselves way too seriously and are quick to be offended.
It is important to note that a crime was committed... Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock and to say otherwise makes light of the situation and continues to perpetuate the problem. I find the memes and jokes surrounding this incident distasteful, especially when if it was any other type of crime like "murder" or if it was even a hate crime against race, people would not take it lightly and in fact would aggressively fight against internet jokes being made
@kr15t3n Good point. I also don't agree with what Will Smith did. I was just saying that we defend our own ideas, even though we're wrong some of the times. Besides something "politically correct" can be whatever, because politics are always changing, because they're made for protecting people's life. But we know that this is not totally true. And I would say that "cancel culture" is as dangerous as censorship. Some people likes feeling superior to others and thinks they have the right to do whatever they want. Hope you don't take this in the wrong way 😊 I just wanted to use more my English. And I just had a dejavú!
@DiBlues, I actually didn’t read your comment until after ahahaha you beat me to it, I was commenting to the post in general. It wasn’t directed at you ☺️
Personally, I'm kinda on the fence about this one. On one hand, I find a lot of comedians are going too far with their jokes and punchlines mocking others' insecurities as well as weaknesses. Sadly, they perceive it as a way of entertainment. On the other hand, people were shocked that for a person like Will Smith, slapping another person in the prestigious award show that was on air worldwide wasn't gentlemen like or something. Maybe he might have been aggressive in the heat of the moment. It reminds me of the saying; blood is thicker than the water, we don't want to stay shut while someone is making fun of our significant ones.
