Buidling a new habit is not easy if it creates too much frication. In other words, if in order to performe the target habit you to have go out of your usual way,Then it is less likely that you will be able to keep on doing that and make that a habit.
For instance if the gym is on your way to the office then all you have to do is stop there. On the contrary, if the gym is not on your way to the office, and even if it is some blocks away. You are less likely to workout in the gym because in order to do that you have to go out of your way.
In a nut shell, all you have to do is reduce the friction. This way you are more likely to develope a habit.
