Hey, I'd like to share one of my favorites music with you and make an interpretation of it.
If you don't know Hobo Johnson or this song, you'll probably think it's a silly song, after all who wants to listen about a guy singing his wishes to have a dog. It isn't very attractive at first, I have to admit, but this song fellows, it's much more. So, let's start.
Link: https://youtu.be/DkLpKaVB3IE
"I really want a dog
And a wife who loves
To talk about the day she had
I want a house that's on a street, that's on a hill
In a community with other people just like me
I want a kid that plays guitar
And he'd be a prodigy at the age of 3
I want my dog to fucking talk
And tell me that she's very, very proud of me
And that I worked very, very hard"
In this first stanza, he talks about his desires. He starts simple and reasonable, but it spirals out of control and finish with him wanting impossible things.
Next, he sings:
"No, I just want a dog
I just want a dog
I just want a dog, dog, dog
No, I just want a dog
I just want a dog
I just want a dog, dog, dog"
Here, I think he's trying to keep himself in check, because he doesn't believe he can get more than the dog and if he keep wishing things he can't get, he'll get hurt.
Then, he desires some more and motivate himself saying:
"I came here for the dream, and I will not leave without it"
But he comes back to realize that he's asking for too much, and pull himself back to that one small thing.
"No, Frank, you just want a dog
You just want a dog...
All you want is a dog, dog, dog"
The song continues, but is the same idea, so I won't put it here.
What do you think? Did you remember something you want, but always think it's impossible to achieve? I often do when I listen to this and It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one.
P.s.: It's important to have our feets on the ground, but it's also important to dream, so don't give up them before trying.
Really enjoyed your commentary on the song. Your English is great!
@LizP thanks ☺️
