Procrastination, that undefeatable devil!
If you think you're alone, believe me, you're not. Almost every one of us has to deal with procrastination. I can assure you of that.
We live in a world full of distractions and with a lot of things to fill our time, scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram(I have to admit the last one is my favorite), playing video games on PC, Playstation, or Xbox, watching movies on Netflix or any other platform. And of course Youtube. How many times have you caught yourself late at night watching one video after another on youtube and suddenly it's 4 am?
The real question is, "what can we do?". How can we effectively fight procrastination and do what we have to do, whatever that may be depending on the individual?
Study for school, work on a project for work, start learning a new demanding skill, start our own business from scratch, go to the gym, or do anything else.
However, some would argue that without the internet, smartphones, and all the technology we have now, it would be easier to sit down and get to work. Unfortunately, that's simply not true. I remember myself as a young high school student. There was no internet back then, no cell phones, nothing at all.
And it was exactly the same. I remember myself with my books open, ready to study, and staring at the wall, thinking everything and anything but my lessons. It's funny now as I think of it.
To answer the question I asked above, "what can we do?" I can give you a piece of advice someone gave me once and it became my mantra.
Some years ago, I practiced Tai Chi Chuan in a martial arts school. When we had to start practicing form and we got bored, one of the students told me "Don't let yourself think - Just start doing".
That was what I needed to hear. One year later, I was one of the best students because of that advice.
So I say the same to you "Don't Think - Just Do".
If you want to work out, just put on your shoes and start walking to the gym. If you want to study, open your books and start reading. If you want to write a post, just start writing. Don't let yourself think!
Of course, you can't win every fight with procrastination, but if you manage to win some of them, your future self will be grateful to you.
