I continue my retelling of an inspriting Ted Talk about what helps a person to speak English or other foreign language with that calm, clear confidence like a passionate player enjoys his favourite computer game.

The second idea of the Ted speaker Marianna Pascal that it all has to do wih self-image. She said that her daughter and bad English spekers scared to be judged by other people. What concerns people who learns English, they know exactly what their English is supposed to sound like. And how far it would have to get to that appropriate level. They think about themselves as bad speakers. Marianna Pascal saw the similarities in it. But she couldn't fugure out, what is so different to people like Faizal.

She found the answer quite by chance. It was one day, when her computer broke down. She had to go to a cybercafe. It was a disgusting place for her. It was just gross and smelly, filled with lots of boys playing noisy, violent computer games. She became interested in a guy sitting next to her. He was playing a sort of game like shooting people until they die.

There were three friends of him standing behind him whatching him playing. The thing is that that guy was a lousy player - a lot of shooting, not much dying. But he was playing with a smile on his face, entirely focused on his game. There wasn't any embarrassment and shyness. He didn't scare being judged by his friends.

Ted speaker Marianna realised that it was the same feeling Faizal has, when he went into conversations. No fear, no self-awareness. He was entirely focused on a person he's speaking to and the result he wants to get.
