Traveling through the brazilian state of Pará I had a culture shock that really boggled my mind: in the cemiteries people put individual roofs over tombs. I don't understand why, since the tombs are made out of concrete, marble slabs or tile (materials that are waterproof and sunlight proof), which render the roofs redundant.
Maybe there is a reasonable explanation, but the locals that I asked didn't know the reason either.
