Dana Scully, future FBI agent in the tv series “The X Files”, in this book is only fifteen years old. Due to his father’s job, as U.S. naval officer, her family has moved to the small town of Craiger, in Maryland and because of her a little introvert nature she is struggling to integrate in the new school. But that’s not the main of her problems: some of her schoolmate are died in supposed car accidents, but Dana has visions that lead her to think that these boys have been killed. Together with a heterogenous group of helpers, she’ll start her own investigation.
In the fifteen years old Scully there are already the basis of the Scully that all fans of “The X Files” know and love. It is incredible how Jonathan Maberry managed to catch perfectly the essence of this character and developed it in a coherent way with what she will become. After all, Maberry himself has professed to be a big fan of the series, and before writing this book he asked and obtained the approvation of Chris Carter, creator of the series. In this way, both this story and that of Kami Garcia (Agent of Chaos who is about the adolescence of Fox Mulder, the other protagonist of the series), are considered "canon" in the X Files world.
Jonathan Maberry writes in a clear, fast and compelling way. This is his second book I read, but the first in English. In two weeks I read 192 pages, surpassing the half of the book. I read underlining with a pencil the unknown words, that I search in a second time. Even without knowing all the words I always understand the meaning of the sentence. Indeed, by reading the sentence, I often get the meaning of the word without having to search for it. Since many words are repeated in the book, the more I go on, the easily I read. For example, in the chapter one I underlined 21 words, but in the chapter 45 I underlined only 6 words, although the chapter had more pages. As a huge fan of the series, I really love reading this book and I already bought Agent of Chaos, that will be my next reading.
