The finals of the Online International Chess Olympiad were played today between Russia and the USA. Mostly due to its big chess tradition, Russia won the match of the second edition of the Online Chess Olympiad. Even having lost the final game, the US had a great performance overall, defeating India, which was one of the strongest teams playing the tournament. Before, this competition used to be played presencially, but because of the pandemic, it was disputed on the internet. This new format imposes a few different rules, though: each team must be composed of two men, two women, a male and a female player under 20 years old. This makes the game more diverse, as chess is unfortunately a game mostly played by men.

In november, the World Chess Championship will be played between the current world champion Magnus Carlsen, from Norway, and Ian Nepomniachtchi, from Russia. I'll be definitively looking forward to that!
