Dear Sir or Madam,
After reading the opinions of other readers regarding the topic of alternative medicine, I also wanted to be a part of the conversation, so I decided to write this letter to give a different point of view on the matter.
Firstly, I feel the need to remark that I do not mean to discredit modern medicine, since its discoveries have made our lives so much easier and healthier. However, I do believe that, nowadays, a lot of people disregard alternative medicine arguing that it is useless and a waste of money when that is not completely true.
There must be a reason why Chinese medicine, for example, has survived through all these years even with modern medicine taking the lead. Acupuncture, natural remedies, meditation… all of them existed before vaccines or antibiotics and they helped, and still do, people with different kind of diseases either physical or mental. Why should we turn our backs on them now?
I am not by any means implying that we should embrace these techniques leaving modern medicine aside, but that they should work hand in hand. I am completely on board with using pills when it is completely necessary, but sometimes it is not. It is in those cases when traditional medicine may come out handy mainly because it is not as aggressive on the body as some chemicals in medicines are. If I can avoid taking a sleeping pill because a hot melissa tea will also help with the problem in a more natural way I will go for it.
The moral of this would be to live and let live. As one of your readers said, if alternative medicine helps someone with his disease or they use it to complement their modern treatment, that is fantastic.
I hope this letter finds you well and that your magazine continues to provide us with such amazing content.
Faithfully,
Irene
Your writing is excellent! :)
