Hello everyone! I'm always trying to write about one topic per entry, but this time I'll be writing about a lot of stuff, which means that this is part of one of my “journaly series” called “Thoughts”.
In the first place, I would like to write about something that made me feel happy and confused at the same time. What happened is that today I dreamed in English for the first time… I know, sometimes when you're learning a foreign language it's common to dream in that language, but what made me wonder is the fact that I dreamed I was talking with Katy Perry in English in my school. I think I don't need to say more, and to be honest I couldn't, because I can't remember that much of that. What I can clearly remember is that some fan called for her, and she didn't hear, which made me call her as well to help that fan. After that, I was talking with her about my school, and what caught my attention was that I was struggling while speaking fast. Well, sometimes our brain surprises us in a way that only we can tell. I say this because I don't listen to Katy Perry and I just knew who she was, because that fan called her name(and she had a blue hair, which is very uncommon in my school).
Sometime ago, I had a similar dream where I was watching a speech given by Greta Thunberg. I know she's an activist and by the way she criticized Jair Bolsonaro(the Brazilian president), and I also know that she's Swedish. What makes me remember that dream, is that she was speaking Spanish… The fun fact is that I don't speak Spanish, and she doesn't either. But I know she was speaking it, though.
Right, it's time to write about books. In my last entry about books, I said that I finished “1984” by George Orwell. I also said what I'll be reading in the next time, and it's “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas. Well, it's a book that are part of “calhamaços” category, which are very large books(this one has 923 pages). I learned it from YouTube channels focused on books, and most times I just watch them in Portuguese(my native language). So if you're learning Portuguese and like books, I have 2 good recommendations for you: Paloma Lima and Ler antes de morrer. But I have to make an exception, because I always watch Emma, and sometimes the simple act of watching it makes me chill.
About the book: I took 2 months to finish it, and it's a good advance. With “Crime and Punishment” I took over the same time to finish its 425 pages, and that was the first book I read in English(I also read “The Count of Monte Cristo” in English), and the other thing is that I increased the number of pages I read per day, which passed from 10 to 15 in one hour. I think I'll keep this number of pages, and thus I can read in a normal pace. I noticed that I tend to like classics more than “contemporary” ones, and I just accepted it, even though it's too early to say that.
About the plot: The plot takes place in France, and tells us the story of Edmond Dantès, who works in a ship called “Pharaon”, where all the crew respect him. Edmond has a fiancée called Mercedès who also loves him, Dantès works hard, and dreams to one day be the captain of that vessel, but one of the crew envies Dantès. One day, this man gets him arrested by a false accusation of bonapartism(which was forbidden by the crown, in the time when Bonaparte was exiled on The island of Elba). Dantès is held in a prison located on an island, where he stays for 14 years, until the time he manages to escape. After his almost impossible flight, he becomes extremely rich, which allows him to get his revenge.
About the multilingual book club round 2, I read “Russian short stories for beginners” by Lingo Mastery. To be honest, I finished it yesterday, and that was really good, I could enjoy the book, participate in every live stream on Instagram(I don't know Mandarin Chinese, so I just watched the English dialogs). I also participated in every YouTube stream. And for this time, as you probably know, Robin's choice for round 3 is "Silk" by Alessandro Barrico. I don't know if I'll read this book, because I have 4 books in my bookshelf, that I haven't read yet. And since I finished “The Count of Monte Cristo” I just read in Russian, and after months reading just in English I fell like I'll become rusty, which I don't want to. So, I think I'll probably read “Notes from the underground” by Dostoevsky(in English), because I miss the psychological insights and the “deep” reading that he gave me in “Crime and punishment”.
It feels really strange to write in English after weeks of just Russian entries, but I think I got it. Thank you for reading, and bye for now!
This entry was seriously interesting. Loved reading it. :D
Can I also do this "thoughts" entry as well? I love this idea, to be honest. !
Of course, you can. I'd love to try reading them! BTW, thank you for supporting it
