I started to learn German when I went to school and I have been learning it for 4 years, but I didn't remember anything afterward. It is important to say that I was one of the best pupils back then, so now realising that I didn't get anything from the lessons really confuses me. Probably lessons only with textbooks was not the best way to learn language, so I tried again some years later, when I was in 8th grade.
Initially everything was perfect, I put much effort in speaking and tried to not pay the whole attention to textbooks and grammar. This attempt was better, but two months ago I stopped since I did less ans less studying. During next 3 years I tried again and again, used different methods, but dropped studying every time.
My last attempt was a year ago, and this one was truly the best, but I stopped studying one month later. I don't have this problem with other languages, german grammar seems more interesting than hard and german language is beautiful for me in general, so I truly don't know why I am always dropping.
Thank you for reading this short story, hope it wasn't too boring!
This sounds similar to my experience trying to study Russian, haha.
I have the same problem with German! Such a beautiful language to me yet I cannot learn it successfully. No idea why :-/
