Today is my first day here at Journaly. So I thought, I should start my journaling by writing about the story 'Metamorphosis' written by Franz Kafka. It's been two months I read that story. One of the most beautiful things about Kafka's stories is that it has the power to change our surroundings. When we read the story, it is as if its happening around us.

When Gregory, the protagonist, wakes up one day he realizes that he is transformed to a bug, a big bug. Then the story travels through the happenings in his house after they found about the transformation of Gregory. I assume, most of you have read this story and hence I am just pointing some of my thoughts here.

When Gregory was in his human form, his life was dull doing the same things regularly. And I think his life was not much higher than the life of a bug. He was not appreciated by his colleagues and superiors despite his hard work. His only consolation was that he is doing this job to support his family (Father, mother and a sister) and that made him feel a sense of pride.

Since he was in the bug's form, Gregory couldn't support his family. His father, sister and mother were forced to find out their own income for the lively hood. The story goes on this way, depicting the stressed atmosphere in the house. Finally Gregory dies.

I was really surprised when I read the last two lines in the story. After the death of Gregory, I thought they may mourn as he was the sole supporter of their home before his transformation. But they went for an outing and simply chilled out.

It was actually very simple when I thought about their strange behaviour after Gregory's death. When they started to earn by themselves, they found out the real freedom and happiness. That was above all.
